4 Reasons Bible Study Is A BIG Deal – And How Watercolor Scripture Art Makes It Practical
Monday mornings you typically start strong – Bible open, coffee in hand, phone silenced, feeling like THIS is the week you’ll finally be consistent!
But then Tuesday is packed to the brim…
Wednesday you don’t even have five minutes to yourself…
By Thursday, you’re scrolling in bed, too exhausted to even think about opening your Bible.
And by the time Sunday rolls around, you feel that familiar little twinge of guilt.
“Why is it so hard to stay on track…?”
I know how that feels, friend. Life is so BUSY. Like we talked about in my last blog post, our lives are full of wonderful things, but those “good” things often push the BEST thing out.
I know it’s not like you don’t want to be in God’s Word regularly – you really do! But when the demands of life crowd in, that’s typically the first thing to go. It happens to me too.
I see you, and you’re not alone in this struggle.
But I want to lovingly remind you of the truth: if you really want to know the Lord deeply and grow in a personal relationship with Him, Bible study is not optional. It’s essential.
2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” In other words, the Bible isn’t just another “good” thing – it’s your lifeline. And if you truly want to grow in your faith, you can’t afford to let it slip to the back burner.
No, studying your Bible does not mean a rigid, perfect, pressure-filled regime. And it’s not just a box you check off on your daily list of “to-dos.”
Bible study nurtures a relationship! A relationship that satisfies the connection, belonging, purpose, and peace you and I crave every day!
So let’s talk about four reasons why reading God’s Word is the non-negotiable doorway to the deep faith and abundant life we long for.
(I’ll also clue you into a secret tool to help make your Bible study really STICK throughout the busy rollercoaster of your day!)
The Bible Is How You Get To Know God
Remember when you first fell in love? Maybe it was your husband. Or your high school crush.
But you were head over heels for this guy. You wanted to know everything about him – his favorite songs, childhood memories, how he liked his coffee. You loved daydreaming about him. You hung onto every word, memorized details, secretly started listening to music he liked (and maybe even burned him a CD labeled “ tHe pErFecT miX” – you know you did too!)
That’s what studying the Bible is.
It’s how you truly get to know God’s heart – not just facts about Him. Things like:
What makes Him smile
What makes Him angry
His mind
His character
To what extent He actually loves you
How far He would go to save you
His favorite creations
How He sees you
The more you read, the more you see how deeply He KNOWS and LOVES you. And the more you know His love for you, the more you love Him back.
And God WANTS to be known by you! He’s not distant, playing hard to get, or hiding Himself from you! He’s already laid out everything for you, His love written on every page of Scripture. He’s always speaking, eager to be known by you. You just have to open and read it.
2. The Bible Helps You Cut Through the Noise
I don’t need to tell you what a noisy world we live in. EVERYONE has an opinion – on parenting, marriage, faith, food, exercise, supplements, work, the list is endless. It comes from everywhere, a constant bombardment from social media, news, podcasts, well-meaning friends, your mother-in-law, the women’s Bible study, and your own expectations.
Whew, it’s exhausting. And confusing!
So how do we reach into this hailstorm of noise and pull out the pieces that are actually true?
God kindly answers this for us in this well-known, often-glazed-by verse: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Of course, you’ve heard that verse before, but how often do we live like we believe it??
The only way to separate truth from noise is to fill your heart and mind with God’s Word first and the most. Otherwise, you’re left floundering in a sea of opinions, trying to piece together what’s right based on the loudest voices of the moment.
Do you know how experts detect counterfeit money? You’d think they spend all their time studying fakes, staying on top of all the ways counterfeiters try to trick people. Nope. They become experts in the real thing. They study authentic bills so closely – every tiny detail, invisible watermark, every texture – that they can spot a fake the second they see it.
That’s exactly what happens when you spend time studying God’s Word.
You don’t have to chase down every opinion, dissect every teaching, or get swept up in every trend. The more you fill your mind with the truth of what God actually says, the easier it becomes to recognize what He didn’t say.
3. The Bible Gives You Strength When You’re Running on Empty
Ok, be honest with me here. When was the last time you powered through a busy day on an empty stomach? (I used to be SO guilty of this!) It happens so fast – you skip breakfast to switch out the laundry and make lunches, and suddenly it’s 4 pm, and you’re lightheaded, cranky, and slow-moving. Now where on earth did that come from? Hah!
But guess what – we do this all the time spiritually!
Pushing through exhaustion, anxiety, and overwhelm, you wonder why in the world you feel so depleted. You grab a quick fix – scrolling social media (hello more anxiety!), treating yourself to coffee, complaining to someone about your crazy day – thinking it’ll fix all your problems and carry you through. But deep down, your soul is malnourished and screaming for a meal.
Jesus knew this would happen, which is why He said in Matthew 4:4, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
God’s Word is soul food. It keeps you alive. Your soul is crying out for it!
When you’re running on empty, the answer is NOT to push through it, no matter how much our culture glorifies burnout! The answer is to refuel. To stop, like Mary, and soak in the refreshing, pure, life-giving truth of God’s Word.
4. The Bible Is Meant To Be Used in Real, Messy Life
If you’re anything like me, sometimes you’ll blow the idea of Bible study out of proportion – like you have to get your hot mess life together before you can open God’s Word.
“The house is a wreck! I should clean that up so I can really focus.”
“I’m pretty upset right now. I should calm down first.”
“I’m carrying a lot of shame and guilt. This better wait till I don’t see myself so negatively.”
Friend, that’s completely backward.
Studying the Bible is not for people who have their homes, hearts, and lives together. It’s for US! The tired, the struggling, the burdened, the ones who are hungry for God but don’t know where to start.
I encourage you: the next time you’re tempted to postpone Bible study until you get your life in order – just open your Bible. Don’t think about it, just do it. Sit on top of the pile of unfolded clothes, with smeared mascara, unwashed hair, and just read. The Holy Spirit will meet you right there with the exact truth you need to hear.
Hebrews 4:12 says, “The Word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword.” God’s Word doesn’t just feed you niceties or appease your pain with sugar-coated sayings. It reveals your longings beneath the surface, reshapes your thoughts, and prepares you to go back into your day filled with God’s purpose!
So if you want to grow, don’t wait until you feel “ready.” Open your Bible now! God’s truth will do its beautiful work in you IN the mess and the imperfection!
Make It Practical With Watercolor Scripture Art
I’m sure you’ve read a passage of Scripture that REALLY hit home – like, wow, that was exactly what I needed to hear. But then an hour later you’re drowning in emails, spilled snacks, 3rd grade homework crises, and you can’t even remember what it was!
Yeah. Same.
One of the biggest struggles with Bible study isn’t just making time for it – it’s remembering what God said once we close the pages. (Surely I’m not the only one who struggles with it, right??)
That’s why I started painting watercolor Scripture art. Because I knew I forget God’s words minutes after putting down my Bible, and I NEED Him to get me through the day!
Having God’s Word in your home immerses you in the truth. And when we see, we remember.
Imagine waking up and seeing a beautiful watercolor Bible verse on your wall, immediately drawing you to the truth before the chaos of the day. Or having Scripture woven into the spaces where you spend the most time, reminding you of who God is in the middle of the dishes, school pick-up lines, and Target runs.
Watercolor with Scripture is a beautiful, practical, easy-on-the-eyes way to strengthen your spirit in God’s Word. It speaks truth into your home, your marriage, your kids, and all the decisions in a day.
Watercolor Bible Verses Reinforce Your Bible Study
No, hanging beautiful Scripture art around your home is not a replacement for opening and studying your Bible.
But it helps it stick. Instead of being something you visited in the morning and forgot by lunch, God’s truth reshapes your thoughts, attitude, and actions throughout the day.
Here’s How Watercolor Scripture Art Reinforces Your Bible Study:
A watercolor with Scripture is hanging a love note from God on your wall. Just like you cherish handwritten notes from loved ones, seeing Scripture daily reminds you of His love and truth.
Keeping Scripture front and center helps tune out all the frantic opinions and noises of the world.
Ever walked past a verse at just the right moment and felt like God was speaking straight to you? That’s the power of keeping His Word visible – it meets you in real time, right where you are.
True change doesn’t come from cleaning up your life and sheer willpower. It comes from consistently exposing your heart to Scripture, letting it renew your mind.
Think about it – when your kids are fighting and you’re about to lose your cool, your eyes land on “Cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
Or when you’re exhausted and the day is only just beginning, you see “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
These Bible verses aren’t just decor for your home. They hold the deep, infallible truth of God’s Word, burning brightly in your heart and mind right when you need it most.
So What Will You Choose?
Here’s the bottom line: studying your Bible is a non-negotiable if you want to deepen your intimacy with God.
And I get it – life is massively busy! And we forget what He tells us.
That’s why I think it’s VITALLY important to surround yourself with Scripture and keep His Word in front of you all day long. It’s a simple step that can make a huge difference in your walk with Him.
